Favco is a trusted Australian owned business intent on delivering the freshest, most healthy, best tasting fruit and vegetables to the marketplace. Cool Dynamics Refrigeration (QLD) have been established since 2001 and are a trusted partner to many established and emerging businesses in Queensland. The company also completes projects throughout the rest of Australia. Cool Dynamics Refrigeration (QLD) were tasked with delivering seven cold storage rooms, two fast pulldown rooms, and two ripening rooms for Favco’s head office site at the Rocklea Markets in Brisbane. Bruce Townsend of Cool Dynamics Refrigeration (QLD), in conjunction with BITZER’s engineering team, specifi ed the set up, settling on effi cient products with reduced refrigerant charges to reduce the client’s ongoing running costs. Partly prompted by the recently implemented phasedown legislation, the old system running on R22 was deemed ineffi cient and unsustainable, and the ageing equiopment was to be replaced with new equipment that could reduce both power usage and refrigerant charge. BITZER’s Evolution Premium units were the perfect fi t, and BITZER delivered ten systems comprising a range of Evolution air cooled condensing units, and ComMech screw packages complete with panels and remote condenser. The full equipment list included: • Evolution 4 and 5 Premium with VSDs fi tted • Commech screw package • Buffalo FMC air cooled condensers with EC fans (selected to operate 810rpm) • Buffalo BBM412 evaporators with high static fans • All evaporators with EVD-ice Superheat control To complicate matters, the challenging site had a very compact plant room, and the units and a condenser deck allowance were placed onto the eaves, which required full safety harnessing and best practice work methods. The client agreed to engage BITZER Green Point’s national commissioning specialist, Amir Shah, to assist the team on site. Bruce said “Amir from Green Point attended site to assist with commissioning. We had two of our most experienced tradesmen working with Amir, and they were intrigued to get a more comprehensive understanding of the controls settings and the optimal system design. We deemed this to be money very well allocated and we would certainly look to utilise this service again on future projects”. “We estimate that power savings through using VSD driven compressors & EC fans on the EVO7 and remote condensers will provide energy savings exceeding 25%.”
